cool [in progress] Map Repository
The map repository will attempt to keep track of all maps to date

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
Was chatting with -Z- in IRC and he asked me to place some additional notes about this project here.

Thumbnails
Create proper thumbnails for each map. Hopefully it will catch on and become a standard that each mapmaker will start to create thumbnails of their maps, but if not that is okay too. Perhaps we could talk the developers into utilizing these proper thumbnails on the voting screens because (I think) usually people vote for maps that they recognize and not necessarily the best map. Simply put, it's easier to recognize the maps by thumbnail, so why not.

Meta information for each map
Maybe we could start some standards for tracking map info, like maybe the style of map (space map, large map, small, nature map, etc) and collect the map designer contact details. That way, if someone wanted to ask the map designer with suggestions or ask a question about the map, it would be possible (not to mention getting updates of the map). The result would be a database of all of the Nexuiz map designers.

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
Is this map repository usable today? I need to setup a curls.txt for my new server.

Is there any way for us (or others) to submit maps to it?

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
The map repository isn't really kept up to date at the moment. With all these other projects I haven't had time. If you'd like to help me get things up to speed, I'd appreciate the help.

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
Well sure. I would prefer using your map repository rather than setting one of my own up. I would be doing it anyway, so might as well work on yours and make it a community thing. What's needed? How do you upload maps to it?

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
I think what I'll have to do is actually change to a subdomain (maps.nexuizninjaz.com) and give you login access. The only other solution would be to bypass the php_ini which randomly stopped working on here... so I don't know if dreamhost hates me or what.

I think ftp is more reliable anyway though... and we aren't going to have users submit their own maps directly (yet).

In the future, yes, I would love a uniform database driven application for anything and everything Nexuiz.

But we have to do it the hard way first :).

Soooo, I'll get on that and get back to you. Sound good?

RE: [in progress] Map Repository
I've done some recent work on this, I've written a good deal of functions that will help us filter maps. I will continue developing this along side of the mapping project as the idea is to give us a nice clean start with some mapping standards and a clean repository. Development will probably speed up post school. Right now the bulk of my focus is on the new Washington DC servers.
