I've been spending a lot of time in this website that offers creative commons music, and while I haven't found anything perfect for my map yet... I thought it'd be a good idea to start keeping records of songs I thought would be good for maps. Either I'll end up using one or anyone else can.
I've put some words I thought of when listening to them as kind of hints for what maps I think of when listening to them.
I encourage others to post songs they find they think would be good in maps.
Indoorsy - bright - upbeat trip-hop:

large, slow while fast - kick back and chill -- lots of fun hills and jumps

Spacey with a lot of bass:

Deep Nature, slow, cold or humid
http://ccmixter.org/files/Neurowaxx/19080
Warehouse, factory, industrial but ambient

This might be cool... if it doesn't get too redundant... vocals are hard in maps... It's interesting though because Fort Minor (Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and friends) has some of their stuff released under the Creative Commons by Warner Music Group O.o. The same people stripping out audio on youtube videos.
