I already posted this on Alientrap's official forums, but I decided to post it here so more eyes can potentially see it.

I decided to spend 30 seconds to put this together when I read -z-'s topic about how he got nexuiz:// working on Linux to connect to the servers quickly using a URL.

I noticed that there was no Windows method given, so I made a method of my own to decrease the time needed to connect to and play on a server, and I'm posting here to share it with you.

It is a batch file as shown below:
Code:

Code:

cd "\Game Program Files\Nexuiz\"
nexuiz.exe +connect 208.43.251.170:26002

Copy and paste the code into a blank text file.

Replace \Game Program Files\Nexuiz\ with the location of your own Nexuiz directory, and replace 208.43.251.170:26002 with the server ip address and port you want to connect to.

The server ip and port given in the batch file will connect you to Nexuiz Ninjaz CTF Veterans +hook server.

Once you are finished copying, pasting, and editing the code, save the text file, give it a suitable name and the .bat extension.

Once you change the text document's extension to .bat, the file's icon will change, and opening it will open up Nexuiz and immediatly connect to the server specified by the ip and port in the batch file.

You can edit this batch file to change the server it will take you to by right clicking the batch file, and selecting edit.

You can then change the ip address and port it specifies using the text editor that appears.

Tell me what you think, and enjoy.

I thought I'd share my script that automates video capture & encoding on Linux (& Mac with a few tweaks). It works with the standard release from Alientrap, it may need editing if you use a distro specific package tho. One word of warning, you'll need a good 10GB of free space on your home dir, this'll be relinquished upon completion tho.

If you're not bothered by quality & compression then you may be content with Nexuiz's built in ogg/theora encoder. There's no need for ~10GB free space & requires no dep's:

}

${LOC} -demo +cl_capturevideo_width ${RESX} +cl_capturevideo_height ${RESY} \
}

aspect;
height;
capture;
echo "Finished! Your video is saved under ~/.nexuiz/data/video/"

[b]Editing tips:[/b]

Add a soundtrack:

[i]ffmpeg -i tune.mp3 -i handsofgod.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy newaudio.mp4[/i]

This uses a specified mp3 as the audio track & makes a new mp4, leaving your original untouched. No encoding is done here, it simply copies the streams.

Cut the video:

[i]ffmpeg -i newaudio.mp4 -t 65.4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy cut.mp4[/i]

-t is what does the trick here, in this example I've asked it to stop at 65.4 seconds. Again this simply copies the streams to a new file, keeping the original untouched & avoids re-encoding.

Edited example (VBR): [url]http://omploader.org/vMTdoMA/cut.mp4[/url]
I thought I'd share my script that automates video capture & encoding on Linux (& Mac with a few tweaks). It works with the standard release from Alientrap, it may need editing if you use a distro specific package tho. One word of warning, you'll need a good 10GB of free space on your home dir, this'll be relinquished upon completion tho.
^ It works for other games too. ;)

If you're not bothered by quality & compression then you may be content with Nexuiz's built in ogg/theora encoder. There's no need for ~10GB free space & requires no dep's:

Code:
    RESX="768"
elif [ "$2" == "hd" ]; then
echo ${RESX}

aspect() {
HEIGHT=`grep vid_height $CFG | cut -d " " -f2 | tr -d '"'`
ASPECT=$(echo "scale=3; ${WIDTH} / ${HEIGHT}" | bc)
echo ${WIDTH} ${HEIGHT} ${ASPECT}
}

height() {
RESY=$(echo "${RESX} / ${ASPECT}" | bc)
echo ${RESY}
}

capture() {
LOC=`locate nexuiz-linux-sdl.sh | tail -1`
${LOC} -demo +cl_capturevideo_width ${RESX} +cl_capturevideo_height ${RESY} \
+cl_capturevideo 1 +cl_capturevideo_ogg 1 +playdemo demos/${DEM}
}

aspect;
height;
capture;
echo "Finished!

Stemming from the first two scripts I wrote earlier, I challenged myself to start work on an automatic map packager. All, you have to do is right click a bsp and the script will do the rest...

This release is early alpha as it only packages things that go in the maps folder in the package (save waypoints which I'll get to later :-P).

Read the usage notes for a quick how-to. It's all automated... you right click a bsp in your maps folder, "Create New Map Package" and it'll do the rest.

It opens up nexuiz and does a bunch of stuff to create the screenshot, mapinfo and radar files. It will automatically quit but if you see that it's done creating the image radar, you can press f10. gedit will then pop up for you to edit the mapinfo. After you close gedit, it will package the map and drop it in your ~/.nexuiz/data directory.
I also don't know if this is posted in the right place, if it isn't, please move it.

Great thanks for your help,

If you haven't heard of XQF it is an open source game server browser and launcher for Unix/X11 for many popular games such as the Quake series and Nexuiz. It gives you the ability to browse and connect to all public channels and any private servers you wish to add to the list. Searching for games involves communicating with 'master servers' on the Internet which game servers advertise to on the Internet. XQF can spawn your client into a selected server with customized options. You can also apply filters while searching for servers, trimming full or empty servers. I suggest all Linux users install XQF if you have not already.

[b]Download/Installation[/b]

Download XQF here: [url=http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13296]http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13296[/url]

Straightforward instructions for most distros: [url=http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/docs.shtml#mozTocId861671]http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/docs.shtml#mozTocId861671[/url]
It is available in the Ubuntu universe repository for a quick Ubuntu installation.

[b]Other Features of XQF[/b]

-Player Filters
By right clicking on a players name you can add a coloured icon next to their name. Its a way of sorting players, you could also use it as a buddy list. The way i use color filters:

[color=#32CD32]Green[/color] for members in my clan
[color=#0000FF]Blue[/color] for members in other clans
[color=#FF0000]Red[/color] for skilled players not in clans

-Server Filters
XQF can filter servers so you only view servers that pass your settings. This can help weed out the servers not in use and too far from your physical location.

-Favorites List
Instead of looking through the whole list, make a favorites list. I added my favorite public and private servers to this list., It is much faster to just refresh your favorites list instead of the full one.

-Many other features:[url=http://www.linuxgames.com/xqf/about.shtml]Here[/url]

TIP: Make sure you point XQF to the proper directory of your nexuiz glx or sdl file. Specify this location in Preferences > Games > Nexuiz.

Feel free to post in this thread other ways you use XQF.

OK.. i know how everyone who has a mac on Nexuiz cant get MacRadiant to work.. Well.. I talked with the coder and designed of MacRadiant and got it to finaly work....

As you know u need a new version if X11.. so all intell ppl will have 2.1.1 or around that so you should be set. Now.. U need to download the intel version of MacRadiant here... [URL=http://www.badongo.com/file/9354254]http://www.badongo.com/file/9354254[/URL] ...

Now... when u open the .dmg file it will make a "Volume" drive and it should look like this.. [IMG]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s200/pspunited/screenshots/Picture211.png[/IMG]

Now right click on the MacRadiant app and click "Show Package Content"...
[IMG]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s200/pspunited/screenshots/Picture212.png[/IMG]

From there a window will pop up with one folder called "Content" then go threw the following folders... /Content/Resources/Script ... then that script file, right click and say open with TextEdit
[IMG]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s200/pspunited/screenshots/Picture213.png[/IMG]

Now when that opens you will see all the code in that script... all you need to do is Delete the Lines (and including the lines) ...

Code:

### Work around open-x11's problem with whitespace

all the way to
[IMG]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s200/pspunited/screenshots/Picture215.png[/IMG]
So now the script looks like this .......
[IMG]http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s200/pspunited/screenshots/Picture216.png[/IMG]

And there.. YOUR DONE! it is supposed to work now.. Wether you have OS X 10.4 or 10.5 .... this is supposed to work.. it was changed for 10.4 but I did it for my 10.5 and it works great now.

Before I told you [url=http://www.nexuizninjaz.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=194][How-to] Running Nexuiz without a Window Manager[/url].
Now I am going to show you how to make Nexuiz a faster and more responsive game.
This tweak will also add to your FPS's.

This tweak is for all versions of Un*x and win32 (a.k.a. Windows NT systems) with an installation.

What do you need?
1. Un*x
Need sudo application.
Edit your /etc/sudoers file and either add you user or uncomment the wheel group and add your user to wheel group.
2. Win32
Need to be in the administration group.
Download and install [url=http://cygwin.com]cygwin[/url] (remember to do the 'mkpasswd' and 'mkgroup', please read the installation instructions for more info).

Giving Nexuiz priority.
For Un*x systems and win32 with cygwin priority is in the range from -20 to 19.
-20 being the highest and 19 is the lowest priority.

What does that mean?
Multi-threaded Operating Systems like Un*x and win32 have a list of applications running all the time.
You can see this by typing 'top' for Un*x, or viewing the task manager in win32.
Applications that have higher priority or nice value for Un*x systems will get executed more frequently making them operate faster.

1. For Un*x systems:
#!/bin/sh
sudo nice -n -20 su $USER -c $NEXUIZ_HOME/nexuiz

Why do you have to use sudo in Un*x systems?
On a Un*x system only the root can execute applications with -20 priority.
Normal users can only execute applications with 0 priority.

2. For win32 with cygwin:
#!/bin/sh
nice -n -20 $NEXUIZ_HOME/nexuiz
