RE: SVN?
the understanding of this topis seems to be elusive so far . maybe an alternative is the answer . i was talking with doku about creating a mumble chat for Mapjutsu .he thought it was a good idea . anyway after moo myself and doku talked for a bit , Doku came up with something called VNC i think its called . Basically several mappers could connect to a server along with mumble and or irc and with the help of this VNC . you would be able to see what is going on in radiant to better help one another while talking in irc or mumble . Im not sure how all this works exactly but the idea of it seems to be a good way to go. So maybe we can setup a test run oon this thing and see how it goes

RE: SVN?
Actually, Dokujisan is working on the VNC capabilities already....Now, the general public of Mapjutsu really doesn't need to know about SVN until they actually get to use it...

RE: SVN?
-z-: I find that all the previously posted data on this thread is enough, don't you agree?

But, I guess I could attempt to summarize it in an easier to read fashion. SVN is a tool used by developers, and now by mappers, as a database so that multiple people may work on one thing without complicating things. Whenever you are granted rights to access SVN for NexuizNinjaz.com, you will mainly be using 3 functions of your SVN program. These three functions are: update, commit, and revert. Update will update your copy of the software or map with the latest version that you and your pals have worked on. Commit will take your version, and make it available to your pals so that they may edit it. Revert is used incase of an error, or a glitch. You can take an older version from a database, and work on that, then upload it as the latest, with commit. Also, in SVN, I find it proper to put a changelog on every version update, that way you can trace back to EXACTLY what you did wrong. VNC is a tool that, hopefully, once set up, will make GTKRadiant guidance and fixing GTKRadiant problems even easier. With VNC, you can view what I am doing when I make a map, and I can give you tutorials just incase you don't understand the text ones. More information about this will be available later, when Doku and I have VNC all up and running. --Moo |

RE: SVN?
svn is the absolute law when it comes to large projects.

its constantly updated, or if you will live! you can run an svn update every hour of the day if you like, witch only downloads the changed files that the developers across the world happened to have last worked on the initial downloads pretty big sure, but yeah I really cant get stress to everyone how powerful svn is for updated current builds, or even source code! |

RE: SVN?
Thats because the nexuiz svn repository just holds all the Nexuiz related files.. the engine and the compiler needed to compile the nexuiz gamecode are not included.
piratesWhy not just wait a bit more and then get the next release if its too hard to understand? People should really only test the svn version when they know what they are doing and also can do proper testing and bugreporting if needed. Maybe even do fixes them self. That is not meant to stop people from taking a glimpse at what is new and will be in the next version, just that you did not even read the FAQ or the official forum.. and that i doubt this is not a good thing when we are expecting serious testing.. RE: SVN?
This is about mapjutsu svn -- private to some of the members in the mapjutsu review crew (which we dubbed last night). It's a way for mappers to collaborate. This is not yet public and is under going some reorganization.
