RE: Guide for respectful playing / Various "unspoken rules"
:D

Even though I don't have any development skills, I do get a sense that Nexuiz is "ours", because I can talk to/play with the developers on the servers or in this forum, and give my feedback/ideas/suggestions... and sometimes see the results. Good point, mikeeusa.

RE: Guide for respectful playing / Various "unspoken rules"
Im for typefragging and friendly shittalking
if i want to be kind ill wait while someone types
but i dont find it at all rude to not wait unless i have been asked to(even then i mostly see "i dont want you to kill me while i chat" as a trivial statement only worthy of the most flippant of responses)
right of way goes to the deathmatcher, not the chatter
a little friendly banter is fun, just gotta know how far you can take it
the general rule of thumb is to not come off looking like an asshole, unless you want to be seen as an asshole
goodgame is more of a handshake than a statement about the game
have manners or dont, i say all is fair on the interweb(especially in a game where the point is to kill people)
just dont expect people to treat you kindly after youve acted like a douche
i have a much better time playing against friends than rivals
xbox live 12 year olds are no fun- dont be one- or expect to be treated poorly

RE: Guide for respectful playing / Various "unspoken rules"
The way I treat typefragging varies from server to server but as a general rule I don't kill the player unless they have been afk for a long period of time and their respawning body keeps getting in the way. It'd be nice if players were made run through if they were typing for more than 15 seconds.

On private servers I just run by the players, knowing they'll (hopefully) be respectful back. On public servers where there are new players abound, I will sometimes fire a "warning rocket", that'll take away ~40-70 of their health so they don't just stop typing and kill me from behind. This is pending on the mood of the game of course. If someone poses no harm, I will not rocket them.

It's all about respect and trying to understand each other's mindsets.

By the way usil, sorry if I came off sounding like an asshole last night. I was nothing personal. Kenji's tactics were superior to our teamwork.

I agree on the point of typefragging in your base. Having the enemy in the base can lose a game. I wouldn't typefrag a person unless he has the flag or is in my base.
