RE: Ninja School - Ideas and Suggestions
I'll tell you now, the hardest part is organizing the class and getting people to pay attention to you. That is why I hope Mr Bougo can build some new functions into the next version of the teaching mod so that controlling the class is easier. :-)

RE: Ninja School - Ideas and Suggestions
I think the existing tools are sufficient really. The pause feature is a key to organizing the class I think. Anytime things get out of hand, just pause. It's hard to ignore the teacher when you can't move or shoot. If someone is purposely disrupting class, kick them. It's pretty simple, especially if the teacher has someone assisting with the class.
So much to do, so little time to do it
In the last class, there was only trouble with one player who kept shooting, but she gave up after being kicked a few times. I didn't have the password, so there wasn't anything I could do to help, but Dokujisan was there and was able to take care of the kicking, while IR3uL kept on with the class. I think it would be nice to have a teacher's assistant for each class to take care of distractions like that. I will try to make myself available as an assistant for future classes and I am sure there are several others that would be willing to help too. You have to spend a few minutes at the beginning of a class to get the students prepared for how a class works. For example, in the trick jump class, it took about 10 minutes for students to get used to taking turns trying the jumps, but it was really cool to see everyone start forming lines and giving encouragement for the rest of the time. Anyway, I don't want anyone to get the idea that it is hard to control the class. You just have to spend a little time to get everyone oriented. And anyone considering teaching, you will have plenty of help. Just ask. |

Several people have shown interest in teaching. I expect the schedule of classes will start filling in soon.

RE: Ninja School - Ideas and Suggestions
I did a quick training with doodr the other day, for speed. I enjoyed teaching it an he said he enjoying learning it, maybe I should do a speed lesson; but has a speed lesson been done?
GT Goals:If I were to do it: I'd need to use two maps, Lavaflag and Hydronex It would also need to be a pretty small class... Other wise people would get in the way of each other... I guess I could make a map with everything I need... shaggy Wrote:has a speed lesson been done?A speed class sounds like a good idea, shaggy. I taught a weapon-based movement class, but it was more about jumps. Anyway, I don't think we have to worry about repeating topics. There are plenty of new players and players that didn't have the chance to attend the previous classes. shaggy Wrote:If I were to do it:I don't think you'd need to build a custom map. It's easy to switch maps with a menu or key bind and the students can be transported to your location using a feature of the teacher mod. shaggy Wrote:It would also need to be a pretty small class... Other wise people would get in the way of each other...There are two ways to handle this: 1. You could set the maximum number of students allowed on the server, so you only get as many as you want. 2. You could try to separate the class into groups that take turns. So a few would try the technique while the rest spectated. The first is easiest, but the second would give more people the chance to learn. I could be there to help organize the class into groups if you wanted to choose the second option. |
